Introducing the Powerful Teacher AI Assistant for Lesson Creation
Lucie Renard —
What if the worksheet, test, lesson plan, or course material you already have could become an interactive auto-graded assignment in just a few minutes?
The ⚡️NEW!⚡️ BookWidgets AI Assistant is built directly into the widget creation process, using a chat interface, to help teachers create, transform, differentiate, ideate, and translate interactive learning materials faster.
| What if you could… | What the AI Assistant can do |
|---|---|
| Turn an existing worksheet into an interactive quiz? | Upload your material and ask the AI Assistant to transform it into a BookWidgets activity with different question types, instructions, and feedback. |
| Differentiate an activity for your students? | Ask the AI Assistant to simplify instructions, adjust the difficulty level, add extra student support tools, or create a more challenging version for students who are ready to go further. |
| Translate an entire widget? | Take an activity you already created, or one shared by a colleague, and ask the AI Assistant to translate it into another language. |
| Create a lesson from scratch? | Start with just a topic, age group, and learning objective. Ask the AI Assistant to suggest a lesson structure, create activities and resources, and turn the idea into an interactive lesson plan. |
| Adapt an existing activity instead of rebuilding it? | Ask the AI Assistant to add questions, change question types, reorganize content, create additional explanations, add matching resources, or adjust the widget settings. |
| Turn the same content into a different learning activity? | Take existing teaching material and ask the AI Assistant to rethink and add it to a Quiz, WebQuest lesson, Flash Cards, game, or another interactive BookWidgets format. |
| Create supporting resources? | Ask for an introductory text, explanation, example, glossary, image, or other resource to complement the activity you're building. |
| Create AI-generated images to support your widgets? | Create AI-generated images for image-based question types, or use them in widgets such as a Pair Matching game or Flash Cards, or to visualize a concept within your WebQuest lesson plan. |
There is one principle at the heart of it all:
"AI supports the teacher. The teacher stays in control."
You decide what you want to create. You provide the context. And before AI-generated questions or content become part of your widget, you can review them, request changes, select what you want to use, or leave suggestions out entirely. For every step of the way, you need to review and accept AI-generated output.
BookWidgets' goal isn't to replace your expertise, creativity, or knowledge of your students. It's to reduce repetitive work in creating and adapting digital lessons, so you can spend more time on what matters most: teaching.

Getting Started with the BookWidgets AI Assistant
You don't need to learn complicated prompting techniques to get started.
Open a widget, open the AI Assistant by clicking the AI Assistant Magic Wand icon in the upper right corner, and tell it what you want to create or change. The BookWidgets AI Assistant isn't just a separate chatbot that generates a block of text for you to copy and paste. It works inside the BookWidgets creation environment. This means you can ask it to work with BookWidgets question types, widget structures, resources, and settings.
You could start with a simple prompt such as:
Create a quiz with 15 questions about the solar system for 12-year-old students. Use different interactive question types and provide explanations for the answers.
Or you can start with something you already have. Upload a worksheet, test, lesson text, or other teaching material and ask the AI Assistant to turn it into an interactive BookWidgets activity.
For example:
Turn this worksheet into an interactive quiz for 15-year-old students. Keep the same learning objectives, use a variety of question types, use the images within the resource, and add explanations where they can help students learn from their mistakes.
Before generating AI output, the AI Assistant will propose a lesson plan you can accept or redirect.
Give the AI Assistant the right context
When you're already familiar with working with other AI chat models like Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, ..., it basically works the same: the more useful context you provide, the better the AI Assistant can understand what you're trying to create.
Consider including information such as:
- the age or grade level of your students;
- the subject;
- the topic;
- the learning objective;
- the desired difficulty level;
- the type of learning activity you want to create;
- and any specific BookWidgets options or question types you want to use.
It doesn't stop here! Continue the conversation after the first result.
For example:
- Make question 3 easier.
- Add an in-depth explanation to the rationale field for each question so students understand why their answer is correct or incorrect.
- Provide step-by-step instructions to students.
- Change this question into a Word Match question.
- Add a resource for students that explains this concept.
- Enable student support tools for students who need more help.
- Create two more challenging questions for early finishers.
- Include 5 more visual questions.
- Include a scoring rubric for open questions.
- Translate the entire widget into French.
- Divide all questions into 3 question pages starting with page 1, using easier questions and ending with page 3, using more difficult open-ended application questions with a scoring rubric.
You don't have to get everything into one perfect prompt. Think of the AI Assistant as a creation partner you can keep giving instructions to while building your widget. If the result isn't what you expected, elaborate on your prompt or reiterate. Sometimes clearing your chat history and starting over gives you even better results.
Review, adjust, and decide what you want to use
The AI Assistant can do a lot of the groundwork, but you remain the editor and decision-maker. When new questions or content are generated, you can review them before adding them to your widget. You can request changes, select what you want to use, or leave out AI-suggested content.
The workflow is therefore:
Your idea → AI Assistant lesson proposal → your review → adjustments → your final widget
Changes made by the AI Assistant can also be undone. And remember, the AI Assistant can make mistakes! If you encounter an error or the AI Assistant keeps doing things wrong consistently, make sure to reset the entire chat and start over with a clearer prompt.
Use the teaching materials you already trust
One of the most useful ways to work with the AI Assistant is to start with materials you already use. Instead of asking AI to invent an entire lesson, you can upload your own:
- worksheets & tests;
- texts;
- curriculum materials;
- lesson resources;
- or other documents.
The AI Assistant can use those materials (.docx and PDF) as the basis for the widget it creates. This allows you to combine the content and curriculum materials you already trust with the interactive possibilities of BookWidgets.
Guidelines for Using AI When Creating Widgets
Like any generative AI tool, the BookWidgets AI Assistant can make mistakes. AI-generated content may contain incorrect information or suggestions that don't fit your specific students, curriculum, or classroom context.
That's why the teacher remains essential. To better understand your role as a teacher when using the AI Assistant, BookWidgets created important AI guidelines that teachers should read before getting started. By using these AI functionalities, you confirm that you are familiar with these guidelines and accept responsibility for the verification and quality of the generated content.
What About Privacy and Teacher Materials?
Introducing AI into an educational tool naturally raises important questions.
- What happens to the materials I upload?
- Are my lesson materials used to train an AI model?
- What about student data?
These questions have been central to our AI development process from the beginning.
Your uploads and input are not used to further train AI
When you upload documents, teaching materials, or other content into BookWidgets to create content with AI, this data is not used to further train the AI model.
The content you upload remains within the BookWidgets environment and is only used to process your specific question or assignment. This keeps your teaching material, school context, and any widget content protected. The AI Assistant also doesn't access student data.
Nevertheless, it remains important to be mindful of what you upload:
- share only material necessary for your assignment;
- never upload personal student data;
- check that you are authorized to use the material within your educational context.
Transparency matters
Throughout our AI journey, schools and teachers repeatedly emphasized the importance of transparency.
Teachers and schools deserve to know:
- which AI technology is being used;
- how their data is handled;
- what AI can and cannot do;
- what the limitations are;
- and where human oversight remains essential.
You can find all information and extra resources about our AI approach, privacy, responsible use, limitations, and costs on our dedicated BookWidgets AI Webpage.
Final Thoughts - AI Support That Keeps Teachers in Control
We didn't add AI to BookWidgets simply because AI is everywhere.
The BookWidgets AI Assistant is the result of an extensive development and testing process involving BookWidgets Certified Ambassadors, Trainers and Educators, educational stakeholders, UCLL Research & Expertise, and more than 100 test schools.
Their feedback helped shape what the AI Assistant can do and how teachers interact with it. And we'll keep listening.
Because the goal of AI in BookWidgets isn't to make decisions for teachers. It's to give teachers a faster way to turn their own ideas, expertise, and lesson materials into engaging interactive learning experiences.
You bring the lesson. You know your students. You make the final decisions. The BookWidgets AI Assistant helps you build it.
