Dimitri Bongers —
Can you believe 2025 is already wrapping up? It’s been a year shaped by major political moments, rapid advances in technology, and the trends and stories that captured global attention.
As the holidays approach (or as you kick off the new term), it’s the perfect time to look back. But let’s be honest: creating a comprehensive, engaging current events quiz takes hours.
So, we did it for you.
We have created a complete 2025 Year in Review Quiz that you can use directly with your students immediately 🙌
How was this Quiz made?
This quiz wasn't just typed into a document; it was built entirely using BookWidgets, a content creation platform for teachers.
If you are new here, you might be wondering: What exactly is BookWidgets?
BookWidgets is an easy-to-use tool that empowers teachers to create over 40 different types of interactive exercises (or "widgets") for their students. From standard quizzes and worksheets to crossword puzzles, memory games, and interactive timelines, BookWidgets allows you to turn static content into engaging digital lessons.
Best of all, it integrates seamlessly with platforms like Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams, Moodle, Canvas, and Schoology, and offers automatic grading to save you hours of administrative work.
This 2025 Quiz is just one example of what’s possible with BookWidgets!
What’s Inside the Quiz?
This isn't your standard multiple-choice test. To keep students engaged, we’ve utilized the full power of BookWidgets' Question types, using a wide variety of question types, including Open-ended questions, Match questions, Fill-in-the-Blank questions, Group questions, and more.
This quiz is designed primarily for middle school to early high school students. However, one of the best features of BookWidgets is flexibility! If you teach younger students, you can easily delete the more complex questions. If you teach seniors, you can add extra "Essay Questions" asking them to reflect ans develop their open-ended answers. In addition, you can choose whether or not to allow students to search for answers online.
💡 This quiz was created by using the new Structured Multimedia Quiz feature!
The quiz covers the entire spectrum of 2025 news across six distinct sections:
- Global news: From space missions to natural disasters.
- Tech & Multimedia: The rise of AI, the fall of Skype, and Humanoid Robots running a half marathon.
- In Memoriam: Honoring the famous people we lost this year, from Pope Francis to Jane Goodall.
- Sports: Records broken in Pole Vaulting, the Tour de France, and the Cricket World Cup.
- The "Wait, What?" Section: The weirdest news of the year; including expensive pineapple pizza and viral wombats.
- Words of the Year: Do your students know what "67", "Broligarchy" or "Rage Bait" means?
A Note on Political Neutrality
We know that 2025 was a politically charged year. We have taken great care to ensure this quiz is politically neutral and fits any classroom context. The questions focus on verifiable facts (who won, what happened, and where events took place) without diving into opinion or bias.

Bonus Activity: Explore some of 2025’s Biggest Moments with an Interactive Hotspot Image
Looking for an engaging way to introduce your 2025 Year in Review Quiz or to extend the lesson for early finishers? We’ve added a free interactive hotspot image that brings the most talked-about moments of 2025 to life. This visual collage features key global events from 2025, including the end of Skype, Armand Duplantis’ record-breaking achievements, and the white smoke rising in Rome. Each image hotspot is clickable and reveals extra content such as a short video, an informational pop-up, or a link to a reliable external source.
How Teachers Can Use the 2025 Hotspot Image in the Classroom:
- Quiz preparation activity: Many of the events shown in the hotspot image directly connect to questions in the 2025 current events quiz, making it an ideal warm-up or preview activity.
- Bonus task for fast finishers: Students who complete the quiz early can explore the image independently and dive deeper into the stories behind the headlines.
- Whole-class discussion starter: Project the hotspot image on a digital whiteboard and challenge students to guess which 2025 events they recognize before clicking to reveal more details.
- Independent or collaborative learning: Let students work solo, in pairs, or in small groups as they explore the interactive elements at their own pace.
This interactive 2025 current events activity helps students connect visual clues with real-world news stories, strengthening comprehension while keeping engagement high. Whether used before or after the quiz, the hotspot image is a flexible, ready-to-use teaching tool that makes reflecting on 2025 both meaningful and fun.
